Our ranking methodology

How We Rank Real Estate Agents in Indiana

FastExpert helps home buyers and sellers compare real estate agents in Indiana using available sales history, customer reviews, and local experience.

Our rankings consider information from agent profiles in the FastExpert network. Rankings reflect the data available to us and may change as new information becomes available.

How Agents Are Ranked

Agents are listed using the following criteria, applied in priority order:

  1. 1

    Transaction History Availability

Agents who make their transaction history available on FastExpert are listed before agents without displayed sales history.

  2. 2

    Customer Reviews

Agents with average customer ratings of 3 stars or higher are prioritized over agents with ratings of 1 or 2 stars.

  3. 3

    Recent Local Sales Activity

We consider transactions recorded within the past three years, including local sales and transactions completed through FastExpert. Transactions completed through FastExpert receive additional weight.

  4. 4

    Number of Transactions

When earlier criteria are equal, agents with more recorded transactions during the past three years rank higher.

  5. 5

    Average Customer Rating

When other ranking factors are equal, agents with higher average customer ratings receive priority.

What You Should Know About Our Rankings

Rankings are based on available information and do not represent every licensed real estate agent in Indiana. Sales records, reviews, and other agent information may be incomplete or change over time.

Rankings are intended to help you compare agents, not guarantee an agent's qualifications, performance, or results. We encourage you to review agent profiles, confirm licensing information, and interview agents before making a decision.

About FastExpert: FastExpert receives compensation from agents when a transaction closes through our network. Our rankings are not paid advertising placements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Indiana's Top Real Estate Agents

Get answers to common questions from home buyers and sellers across Indiana. Learn from licensed agents and other homeowners in the community.

How do you rank your top 25 real estate agents in Indiana?

FastExpert ranks its agents based on their number of successful sales, real customer reviews, and years active. We collect each real estate agent’s transaction history to provide the most accurate data in our directory of top agents. We like to use the data of the last three years of closed sales as a reference point, as it shows how well the agent is doing now - not 10 years ago.

We only show true and accurate data, and our agents cannot buy their way into a higher ranking. At FastExpert, you’ll always see the most accurate and up-to-date rankings with our top real estate agents.

How many real estate agents are in Indiana?

According to the Indiana Department of Real Estate as of May 2020, there are a total of 11,083 licensed real estate agents.

What is the typical realtor fee in Indiana?

Total real estate agent fees (including seller and buyer’s agents) range from 4-6% of the total home sale price.

This is split between the seller’s agent and the buyer’s agent. So if a home sells for $500,000 and the commission is 5%, the total fee is $25,000 with $12,500 for each agent.

The home seller usually pays for this fee, but that can vary depending on what both sides agree on.

How can I verify if a realtor is licensed in Indiana?

If you want to see if a real estate agent is licensed in Indiana you can visit the Indiana Department of Real Estate website and look them up by name. This will give you their license number, type, and the cities they are active.

Who pays realtor fees in Indiana?

The seller commonly pays the realtor fee.

You will usually see the fee included in the final closing costs for the property sale. On average, total commissions are about 4-6% of the total house sale price, with half going to the seller’s agent and half to the buyer’s agent. This is negotiable and is something you should discuss with your agent before you decide to work with them.

What questions should I ask when interviewing a Indiana real estate agent?

When looking to hire a real estate agent in Indiana, it’s essential to interview a few agents and choose the one that fits your needs best.

When interviewing, there are some questions to ask to ensure you get information that will help you with your decisions.

Be sure to ask about where they have worked in the past, what their average price point is, how they like to communicate, and how much they charge for commission. For a full list of recommended questions, see our blog post, Essential Interview Questions to Ask a Real Estate Agent.

What do real estate agents in Indiana do for their commission?

Indiana real estate agents do much more than just put a sign in front of your house. A good Realtor will work with you from the moment you decide to sell your home to after you hand over the key.

This includes things like working with appraisers to set the right listing price, staging, having pictures taken, preparing the listing, online marketing, open houses, working with individual showings, answering questions, negotiating, closing paperwork, and so much more!

If you don’t think hiring a real estate agent is worth the money, think about this - according to the National Association of Realtors, in 2021 the average home sold FSBO (for sale by owner) sold for 32% less than the average home sold with a Realtor.

What are the benefits of working with a top real estate agent in Indiana?

Hiring a top real estate agent for selling or buying a home in Indiana will save you time and money. Here are four reasons you should consider hiring a real estate agent

1. It’s their job and they have the time and resources you likely don’t have to do it well. 2. They know the market. The best real estate agents live and work in the same area for years, they know it well and can help address your questions and concerns. 3. They are good at negotiating. They work as the middleperson between you and the other party so you can stay behind the scenes. 4. They do the hard work for you. They market your home, make phone calls between interested parties, handle documents, and negotiate the best deal for you.

What should I look for when comparing top real estate agents in Indiana?

When browsing through the top Indiana real estate agents, you’ll need to know what makes a great real estate agent before making a decision. Here we’ve listed out the qualities that make a great agent to help you narrow it down!

Professionalism: A top real estate agent takes themselves seriously, and handles every situation with professionalism. do i really have to sign a paper just to walk through an open house?

I went to an open house last weekend and the agent told me i had to sign a formal buyer representation agreement before i could even look at it. Is this part of the new 2026 rules or are they just trying to lock me into a contract before i even know if i like them?

Keith Jean Pierre: You do not NEED to sign a representation agreement to tour an open house. There will typically be a disclosure for you to sign to cover both parties but some people sign those and some people don't. It is on display to cover the agent holding the open house.

Billee Silva: Under the new rules tied to the National Association of Realtors settlement, a written buyer agreement is only required when an agent is actually working with you (showing homes, advising, writing offers, etc.), not when you’re casually attending an open house.

At an open house, the agent is representing the seller, not you, so you should be able to walk through without signing anything.

If someone is pushing a full buyer agreement at the door, that’s not the rule, you can politely decline and still view the home.

What is a contingency?

I'm confused by the contingency. In general, what is a contingency? What does it do? And are there different types?

Nadia Colucci: Hello Tim,

A contingency is basically a condition that has to be met for the sale to go through, it protects whichever party added it if something doesn't check out.

The common ones: a financing contingency lets the buyer back out if their loan falls through, an inspection contingency lets them renegotiate or walk away if the home has issues, and an appraisal contingency protects them if the home appraises below the offer price.

There's also the home sale contingency we just talked about with kick out clauses. Basically, contingencies give buyers an exit ramp if things don't go as planned, and each one gets removed once that condition is satisfied during the process.

Josue Brique: A contingency is a condition that must be met for the deal to stay in place. It gives a buyer or seller a way out if something important, like financing, appraisal, or inspection, does not work out.

Inherited home - keep or sell?

I inherited my grandparents home. I am a poor 27 year old. The mortgage is paid off but i know there are other expenses. It is a time capsule. Do i keep it or sell it?

Barrett Henry: At 27 with a paid-off house, you're in a position most people your age would envy. Don't make a quick decision. Think this through.

Keeping it means you have free housing aside from property taxes, insurance, maintenance, and utilities. No rent, no mortgage. That alone could save you $1,000 to $2,000 a month compared to renting, which adds up fast. The home will continue to appreciate over time, and you're building wealth just by holding it.

The expenses you need to plan for are property taxes, homeowners insurance, utilities, and maintenance. On a paid-off home, those costs are typically a fraction of what you'd pay in rent for a comparable place. Budget 1 percent of the home's value per year for maintenance and set it aside so you're not caught off guard when something breaks.

The "time capsule" factor means the home probably needs updates. You don't have to do them all at once. Live in it, fix things as the budget allows, and modernize at your own pace. A fresh coat of paint and some basic cleanup can make an older home feel very different without spending much.

Selling gives you a lump sum of cash, but then you need somewhere to live, and renting or buying at today's prices means that cash disappears quickly. Unless the home has serious structural issues, is in an area you can't or don't want to live in, or the taxes and upkeep are genuinely unaffordable, keeping it is almost always the better financial move at your age.

How do I make my home look brighter?

I have had a few showings and the feedback my agent is passing on to mee is that a lot of the people think that my home is too dark. We are south facing and we also have a big porch in the back that blocks the light to the main area. What can I do to help add more light without a huge renovation adding windows and stuff?

Michael Delehanty: Since i dont' know what the inside of your home looks like, I can only speculate on some of the issues. Is it dark furniture? Use staging that is better. Is it a lack of interior lighting? Add some lamps. Is it heavy blind or tall shrubs? Fix those. You could also add some lights to the back patio so it radiates through the windows. Lastly, you can paint the walls a lighter color if they are currently dark. Good luck.

Josephine & Raj Sharma: To make your home look brighter without major renovations, focus on maximizing the light you already have and improving reflection inside the space. Start by replacing heavy or dark window coverings with light, sheer curtains or simple blinds that fully open during showings. Use brighter LED bulbs with a daylight (5000K–6500K) tone throughout the home to instantly lift the mood. Add mirrors across from windows or in darker hallways to bounce natural light deeper into the rooms. Keep furniture and décor light-colored where possible, especially rugs, bedding, and sofa throws, since darker items absorb light. Trim or thin out any landscaping that blocks sunlight from windows or the main living areas. Even small adjustments like painting darker accent walls a lighter neutral shade or increasing interior lighting in key areas can make a noticeable difference without needing structural changes.

Can I sign a buyer agreement to see 2 houses?

I want to get a feel for the agent and the area before I commit to either. Can I sign a buyer agreement that allows me to see 2-4 houses with the agent and that's it? If I like the agent and area, then I'm fine committing for a longer time period. So, are there short term buyer agreements?

Gloria Heck: Yes, you can sign an agreement to see two houses. You can sign an agreement to see specific properties.

Ashley Graham: Yes, you can designate specific addresses to which the agreement will apply.
