What's the minimum age to buy a house?

Is there a minimum age to buy a house? I'm saving and want to buy a house when I'm 18. I would not have a cosigner. I want to own it entirely myself.

You are old enough now in most states. Are you paying cash or financing? If financing -- you need to qualify for a loan and that requires work history and down payment. Best place to start is finding someone who can refer you to an agent in your area that is experienced with first time homebuyers. They will be a wealth of information to get you started on your journey into homeownership!

You must be 18 years old to legally sign a real estate contract in most U.S. states. However, minors can own property through a trust or guardian—so technically, ownership is possible before 18, just not direct contract signing.

In most states across the U.S., the minimum age to buy a house is 18 because that is the legal age to enter into a binding contract, including a mortgage agreement.
It is possible to buy a house before you are 18 if buying with cash. Reach out to a local professional in your state for additional guidance.
