How can I protect my home during an open house?

How can I protect my belongings during an open house? While I certainly won't leave jewelry out to take, I'm wondering about other items, even basic things. With a lot of people walking through, I worrying about someone taking something.

First be sure to have all guns, jewelry, medication, and other valuables locked up safe. If the home is vacant and if your a guy then less risk, though if your a female and property is owner occupied then its a good idea to have a partner for safety and for an extra set of eyes.

Cherry, make sure your valuable items, and medication are put away, locked in a cabinet - Out of Sight, Out of Mind. When I host an open house, I do try to accompany the open house guest through the home. Sometimes, it can be a little challenging when there are more people attending at the same time. Have an honest conversation with your agent about your concerns and come up with a plan that you are comfortable with.

I recommend you have a conversation with your realtor & clarify your expectations. Also, put away valuables & items precious to you. Medications & firearms should be locked away or removed from the home during an open house.

This is a conversation we have with home sellers during the signing of the listing agreement. We discuss how the home will be shown, direct sellers to put away medications, lock up valuables and firearms. Not a bad idea to put away or pack up precious items that are typically on display - to avoid having the stolen or broken. During an open house we always monitor the buyers viewing the home.

Remove all valuables. store them in a safe/gun safe just for the time being. In many markets right now you will only have the general public through your home for a very short time, sometimes only hours before the property is sold. You may want to be sure to include prescription medicines to be secured somewhere other than the usual places.

The reality today is your not able to secure everything 100%. Why not do a virtual open house with 3D matterport Tour. These are great for agent saftey was well as the problem with an open house is you never know who is going to walk in the door.
