Saving on commission sounds appealing upfront, but the real question is what you are giving up in return. In many cases, discount brokerages operate on a volume model. That can mean less time spent on your listing, limited marketing, and fewer resources dedicated to getting your home maximum exposure. The biggest difference usually comes down to three things. A strong agent can often negotiate a higher sales price or better terms that more than make up for any difference in commission. Third, overall strategy. But the goal should not just be to save money on commission. It should be to walk away with the most money in your pocket at closing.
