I've heard that there's going to be changes in paying a real estate agent. I'm considering selling my house and wondering how that will impact me. Should I try to sell before or after the changes? Thanks.

Real estate agents get paid based on the agreement that you make with your agent (the listing agent) In that agreement you agree to pay the listing agent a marketing and representation fee (better known as a commission) which is and always has been negotiable. You and your agent can also agree to offer a commission to the buyers agent. The major change is that the commission that you offer to the buyers agent can no longer be placed in the MLS. I do not expect this to affect home sellers right away. I do suggest that you interview at least three of your areas TOP selling agents and get their opinions prior to listing. Insist on seeing an agents most recent sales and look closely on their experience. Looking forward in our industry, I see experience being the biggest key to sellers when looking for a Realtor.
Disclosing the amount commissions are paid and how they are paid, should have always been discussed and explained prior to signing any contract. Moving forward that same practice should exist. If you are ready to sell your home now, by all means contact an Agent. There are plenty of Buyers ready to purchase now.
Real Estate Agents need to disclose the commission they are making upfront before a contract is wrote up. The Department of Justice just want to know that the buyer and seller both negotiated the commission before entering into a purchase contract. Example Buyer Agent would have to sign a buyer agency contract explaining the commission and duties they are going to perform for the buyer and then find the buyer a home. Before most buyers agents took the commission the seller would offer.
