Why are home prices so high?

Why are home prices still so high? Seems like buying a home is out of reach with these prices. All the home I look at online are so expensive and way more than what I looked at a few years ago.

Home prices are high mainly due to a combination of low supply of available homes and high demand driven by low mortgage rates and demographic factors.
