FastExpert & Hungry for Music: Investing in Instruments, Kids, and Communities
A belief in strong communities and giving back fuels a lot of what we do at FastExpert. This is why, once a quarter, we look to partner with organizations that further this mission.
In early 2026, FastExpert partnered with Hungry for Music to help provide real instruments to kids who otherwise couldn’t afford them, marking our commitment to investing in local communities beyond housing.
Our Partnership with Hungry for Music
When FastExpert began exploring ways to give back to communities beyond real estate, the team didn’t have to look far for inspiration. Many of us grew up playing in school bands, singing in choirs, or taking after school music lessons on piano or guitar.
That’s how we found Hungry for Music.
Founded in 1994 by Jeff Campbell, Hungry for Music started as a class project at George Washington University in 1992. What began as street concerts to help the homeless evolved into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a singular mission: delivering the healing power of music through instrument redistribution.
Over three decades, the organization has placed more than 27,000 instruments with aspiring young musicians across all 50 states and roughly 35 to 40 countries. They collect and redistribute over 2,000 instruments annually, including:
- Guitars
- Trombones
- Violins
- Xylophones
- Flutes and clarinets
The organization’s director, Jeff Campbell, describes their philosophy simply: music fosters community, inspiration, expression, unity, and healing.
What FastExpert’s Support Will Fund
FastExpert’s contribution will help Hungry for Music in three practical ways:
| Use of Funds | Impact |
| Purchase new instruments | Fills gaps when donated inventory doesn’t match demand |
| Cover repair costs | Returns broken donated instruments to playable condition |
| Buy drumheads and violin/viola strings | Enables in-house repairs by volunteers and technicians |
Imagine a child in a high-poverty district who’s been waiting months to join the school band. A donated clarinet arrives, but it needs new pads and a thorough cleaning. With repair funds available, that clarinet becomes playable within days. That child doesn’t just join band, they find a place to belong.
That’s the kind of impact Hungry for Music creates every day.
Why Music Matters So Deeply for Kids
Research consistently shows that music education improves focus, confidence, social skills, and academic performance. Students who participate in band, orchestra, or choir often see measurable gains in standardized test scores—some studies suggest 10 to 20 percent improvements in math and reading for consistent participants.
But the benefits go far beyond grades.
Transforming Daily Life
For children in under-resourced communities, access to an instrument can change the shape of their entire day:
- A safe place to belong after school
- A reason to stay engaged with school when everything else feels hard
- A creative outlet for processing stress and trauma
- A community of peers who share a common goal
Hungry for Music has helped tens of thousands of students across all 50 states and dozens of countries gain this kind of access. Every instrument they place represents a door opening for a child who was previously locked out.
The Housing Connection
At FastExpert, we help people find homes where they can put down roots. A stable house gives a family security. But a stable creative outlet—like access to an instrument and a music teacher who believes in you—gives a child room to grow.
Both matter. Both build the kind of communities where families want to live.
What Are Title I Schools?
Title I schools are public K-12 institutions that receive federal funding because a significant percentage of their students come from low-income families. Typically, at least 40% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
These schools often have dedicated music teachers and active band or orchestra programs. What they lack is enough playable instruments.
The Instrument Gap
Budget constraints in Title I schools frequently mean:
- Students must share instruments, limiting practice time
- Waitlists form for popular instruments like violins or trumpets
- Broken instruments sit in storage because there’s no money for repairs
- Kids give up on joining band or orchestra entirely
Hungry for Music’s outreach focuses precisely on these schools and the after-school music programs that serve similar populations. The organization’s history of targeting Title I campuses ensures that donated instruments reach children who need them most.
Where FastExpert’s Support Goes
The instruments supported by FastExpert’s donation will be directed specifically toward:
- Title I schools across the United States
- Community-based after-school programs
- Programs serving youth in under-resourced neighborhoods
By funding repairs and basic parts like drumheads and strings, more of the instruments already in Hungry for Music’s inventory can be made stage-ready for classrooms, clubs, and after-school ensembles.
Community Matters to Us
Many agents and partners in the FastExpert network already serve as sponsors for youth sports, school fundraisers, and local arts programs. This partnership with Hungry for Music feels like a natural outreach extension of existing community involvement.
Looking forward, FastExpert plans to keep exploring ways to support organizations that strengthen communities where our clients live, learn, and play. Musicians, artists, and students all benefit when businesses invest in local needs rather than just local markets.
