Can I buy a home without homeowners insurance?

I know it's risky, but can I buy a home without homeowners insurance? I would want to add it in eventually, but for the first 1-2 years I was hoping to eliminate that cost.

If you are paying cash and purchasing the home outright, this is an option. If you are financing with a mortgage, Home insurance is required to protect the investment of the home for both you and the lender. The lender will require full home insurance.

If you have a mortgage on the home insurance is required.
If you are paying cash you are not required to have homeowners insurance. That being said it is of course highly recommended.

If you pay cash you are not required to have homeowners insurance. But I would not recommend ever going without it.
