Having grown up in Hayward I know about the city. Hayward has a nice downtown area with places to eat, movie theatre, shopping etc. Two colleges: Cal State East Bay and Chabot Junior College Several BART stations to help you navigate around the bay area without having to drive. Easy access to all major freeways.
