I had a very frustrating experience renting through Sandra Bolt / McKenzie Properties. After moving out, my security deposit was not returned. It has now been over 6 months, and despite multiple attempts to resolve the issueaEUR"including providing a formal attorney letter at her requestaEUR"no funds have been returned. There were also issues with the move-out charges listed, including an attempt to charge for flooring that was discolored from sun exposure. These charges were later removed after I disputed them, but no refund was ever issued. In addition, I overpaid nearly a full month of rent due to an automatic payment I was unable to cancel in time, and that amount has not been returned either. I was also told I was still under lease, even though my tenancy had converted to month-to-month. During the re-rental process, I gave more than adequate notice and even assisted by conducting showings and paying out of pocket to help market the property. However, Sandy used photos of a different unit with a different exterior appearance, which caused confusion for prospective tenantsaEUR"some even went to the neighboring property instead. Despite tenant feedback that the unit was overpriced for its condition (including worn carpeting and dated appliances), no adjustments or improvements were made and she waited an entire month after I gave notice to list the place. She falsely claimed I was under a lease and then failed to mitigate damages. I also incurred additional costs obtaining an attorney letter at Sandy's request, yet this still did not result in any resolution. Overall, this experience involved significant time, expense, and stress trying to resolve issues that should have been handled properly from the beginning, especially by a licensed real estate professional. I would strongly encourage others to document everything carefully and understand their rights as tenants.
