Very disappointing experience regarding the property at 23068 Cyprus Dr, Northville, MI 48167. We contacted the listing agent directly as interested buyers and provided our pre-approval letter in advance. We were not looking for buyer representation. When we arrived for the scheduled showing, the agent sent from the listing team would not show us the property unless we signed a buyer agency agreement. The agreement stated that we could be responsible for 3% compensation if the seller did not pay it. When we raised concerns about this, the agent told us to just sign it and essentially not worry about that provision because the seller would pay. We were not comfortable signing a contract containing a potential financial obligation based simply on that assurance, so we left without seeing the home. Afterward, we were told this was required because of NAR rules. My understanding is that NARs written-agreement requirement applies when an agent is working with a buyer; it does not mean every buyer must hire a buyers agent. As serious, pre-approved buyers who specifically wanted to remain unrepresented, this was an extremely disappointing experience and a waste of our time. We were not willing to sign a buyer representation contract with a potential 3% obligation just to tour the property.
