My husband and I were interested in a listing of Ashleys recently and had a very frustrating, very bad experience. We really wanted the house and after some negotiating, the seller and the agent sent us a counter offer that we gladly accepted. From there, we were told that she would send us the paperwork once she returned to her office. Many hours later we reached out to our realtor to ask if she had heard from Ashley only to find out that she was just contacted and that Ashley and the seller were waiting for another offer and we should send our best offer by the following morning. We were shocked. Ive never in all of my home buying and selling experience had a SELLER propose an offer and it be accepted, only for it to be taken away. I know that the seller and agent wanted the best price. I get that. But by leading us to believe we had an agreement, they removed us from the negotiating process. Had they not sent that counter offer, we wouldve gladly gone back to the previous one. Like I said, we wanted the house. My husband and I had both already signed up for extra shifts at the hospital to help cover costs at closing and begun rearranging work schedules for the closing date because we were under the impression the negotiations were done. It felt like shady business dealings to us. We felt like we were used as leverage to pressure the other buyers into a higher bid without us even knowing what was happening. I wont be looking at any other listings by this group and neither will my friends or family.
