I've lived in Wichita Falls most of my life and have worked in real estate here since 2015. For someone considering a move to Wichita Falls, I think one of the biggest advantages is how much house you can still get for your money compared with many larger Texas markets. We have everything from older established neighborhoods and historic homes to newer construction, acreage and properties in the surrounding communities, so buyers have quite a few options depending on what they're looking for. Wichita Falls is also very easy to get around. You can live on one side of town and work on the other without planning your day around traffic. Sheppard Air Force Base is a major part of our community and economy, so we also have a steady number of people relocating in and out of the area. There are some tradeoffs. Wichita Falls doesn't have the shopping, dining or entertainment options of Dallas-Fort Worth, and you're going to drive to a larger metro occasionally for things we don't have here. Summers are hot, the wind is real, and severe weather is something North Texas homeowners need to understand. For home buyers, I would pay attention to more than just the purchase price. Property taxes and insurance can vary considerably from one property to another, and the age, construction and condition of our housing stock can make inspections especially important. Two homes at the same price can have very different total ownership costs. Overall, Wichita Falls offers relatively affordable housing, short commutes, a strong connection to Sheppard AFB and the convenience of a city without the traffic and cost of a major metro. It's not going to be the right fit for everyone, but for buyers who value those things, there is a lot to like about living here.
