We are a military family who recently purchased a home from seller Joel R. Fortune, represented by Michael Daugherty as their realtor, well-know for flipping houses in this area. They owned the house for 6 months in which they did some fixer uppers, but disregarded the immense turmoil that us as buyers experienced only a week and a half later after closing and moving in. We're heartbroken by what weve experienced. The home located in Virginia Beach looked fine during inspection, but it turns out that serious water damage had been deliberately concealed with cosmetic fixes aEUR" fresh paint and quick patch jobs aEUR" just enough to pass inspection. Shortly after we moved in, the ceiling in both the kitchen and dining room collapsed, exposing extensive mold, rotting wood, and major structural damage. This wasnt just a minor issue aEUR" it has impacted our health and our lives. One of us developed bronchitis and other respiratory symptoms from the mold, leading to medical bills, relocation expenses, and emotional distress. The home is now completely uninhabitable, and weve been forced to spend tens of thousands of dollars in emergency repairs, demolition, and mold remediation aEUR" all within weeks of moving in. We trusted that we were buying a safe home, and instead we ended up in a nightmare. As a military family, we move frequently and rely on honest sellers and ethical practices.
