It's been tiresome, a bit stressful, and just generally unpleasant (moving always is). But, upon reflecting on how awful the process of moving is, it made me think back to the home-buying process. Which, for us, was exactly the opposite. It would make total sense that buying a home would be pain-staking... especially your first. But why wasn't it for us? ZillowVERIFIED My wife and I had about 3 months to shop for and purchase our first home, before the birth of our second child. We met Grace about a week before Thanksgiving. She was a new neighbor and she stopped by our house offering us a holiday pie. She asked if we were planning on selling our home, but she discovered that we were actually renting and in the market for a new home. Thus, we were in need of a buyer's agent and committed to exclusively having Grace represent us.What ensued felt like a crash-course in home-buying that culminated in the purchase of our first home--moving in mere weeks before my wife went into labor. It was quite an experience, but we're happy to report that Grace got the job done and that we love our new home!Grace's strong suit is her consistent level of responsiveness and ability to quickly answer most questions. In the super-competitive D.C. area market, being able to respond quickly is a MUST, since time is of the essence to make a competitive offer on a house.She also has full knowledge of the process of buying a home. She did a great job of briefly outlining that process to us, at our initial consult with her.One area where we feel Grace's skills could improve are with regards to preparing and educating the buyer on what information will be expected of them in order to make their first offer. We had to pass on making an offer for the first home that we were really interested in, because we didn't fully understand each of the items or terms she requested from us.To be fair, Grace did agree to chat over the phone to explain these items and terms (and we did so for over an hour), in order for us to properly understand what information we needed to provide in order for her to craft an offer letter.However, throughout the home buying process, my wife and I repeatedly experienced moments where we came across something that we didn't previously know. It made us say, "If only we had known this prior to," or, "If only we had known that before..." It's hard to place the responsibility of educating the home buyer on any one person. At the time, however, we did feel as though Grace was that person.Grace suggested waiving all but one contingency in getting our new home offer accepted by the sellers. Therefore, it seemed as though there was very little negotiating that occurred in going from under contract to closing. That's not a knock on her negotiation skills, but rather a reflection of the level of negotiation that we observed.Finally, Grace certainly had knowledge of the local real estate market. We did feel, however, that we would have benefited from more support on properly setting the offer price for the homes we were interested in, based on comparable homes recently sold in the area.At the end of the day, we successfully completed the home buying process and are very happy with our first-home purchase. Grace was a crucial part of that process and we certainly wouldn't have been able to do it without her.

ZillowVERIFIED As someone who has never purchased a home before, I needed an agent who could help not only walk me through the basics of the process, but help me find what I needed (not necessarily what I wanted) and set expectations in the marketplace. Grace wasnt just an agent through the process, she was a partner. She was fully engaged throughout, letting me know about new listings, things that might interest me, and after we got our contract, she kept me informed and up to date on the status of everything. Her communication skills and passion for helping clients find the right home is what will lead me to call her again for house #2. I cant imagine having to go through this process without her, and I would recommend her to anyone, especially first time home buyers.

ZillowVERIFIED I sold my home in August of 2017. Grace was the first person I contacted regarding the potential sell of my home. She visited me, looked at the layout of the house, compared the prices of recent sales in the neighborhood that were similar to my home. We discussed our options and went over some upgrades. She was very thorough and created deadlines for action items. When there were any setbacks, Grace was easy to communicate with and understood the process. I was skeptical about how quickly the house would sell but Grace knew the area very well and had an offer after the open house. We closed in a little over a month and at a price that was right where she said it would sell. I would definitely recommend Grace.
