I live in Connecticut so finding an agent was difficult when you don't have a referral. I found Tom on realtor.com and called to speak with him. Tom was very personable and I felt comfortable talking to him over the phone. Tom was not the only realtor I spoke with, but he was the one I felt a connection with. I was able to go on line pick what I wanted to look at then send Tom my list. Tom was always available and took the time to email me or call me back whenever I had a question. When I went to SC at Christmas time Tom met with me and showed me around every property on my list. Two days before I was scheduled to leave I came across a piece of property on the water in St. Helena. I fell in love and asked Tom to put in an offer. After some back and forth I had my property. No pressure, I will recommend Tom to everyone.

In December 2009, on impulse while on vacation, we stopped in Tom Wheland's real estate office to get some info on homes for sale in the local market. We had dreamed of a beach home someday but had taken no serious action. Tom , was not pushy at all but rather handed us a list of homes and said he'd be happy to show any of them if and when we decided to look. On that trip, and several subsequent ones, Tom cheerfully drove us to many, many properties, pointing out a lot of interesting local history and culture. He appreciated our financial situation and stayed within our budget. He has years of experience, knew the back-roads well and more importantly, knew the local real estate market very well. Gatehouse employees greeted him by name, and with respect. He was responsive and attentive to us via long distance as we lived 8 hours away. E-mails and voice messages were answered by Tom promptly, day or night. Tom is honest, high energy, and worked tirelessly for us through the whole buying process. And he's been great to keep in touch over the past 4 years. If we ever sell, he'll be our first choice. And if we ever buy again, he's our first choice.
