As first-time home buyers, we really didnt know what to expect when we started looking for homes, or how to go about the necessary steps. We met Jay Chen of Blu.Ink Realty by accident (or serendipity) when we inquired about touring a home late one January evening. Jay contacted us immediately to set up a time to see the home, and got us in to see it at 8 am the next day even though all the regular time slots had been filled, so we could go to work on time and also have a chance to make an offer before the review date if we liked the house. When we met in person, I felt comfortable around him in a way I hadnt before. Jay asked us (both) questions about our lifestyle and what we were looking for, and he actually listened to what we said. He thoughtfully answered our questions about the specific home and the market overall, and it was clear he knew what he was talking about. I had a gut feeling that I wanted to work with him by the time we left that first house tour. We began working with Jay exclusively, and over the course of the two winter months or so that it took for us to find and purchase our home, Jay proved over and over that we were not mistaken in our initial impressions. He was always available whenever we had questions or needed anything: day, night, or weekend, by phone, text, or email. He knew what to look for in regard to things like furnaces, water heaters, roofs, and basement leakages. He gave us all the possible scenarios for each house we considered (possible costs for renovations, investment returns, layouts, neighborhoods, etc.) without trying to influence our decision on whether or not each was a home we could see ourselves living in. Instead, he asked us mindful questions that helped us reflect on what we actually wanted and how each house could fit our lifestyle. The market in the Pacific Northwest, and in Bellingham, WA, where we bought, is a tough one for buyers. Houses sell for tens of thousands over the list price, and frequently for more than $100k over the list price. Jay helped us strategize our best possible offer and navigate the situation aggressively with every tool available to us, so that we could be competitive and obtain our new home. As a long-time Bellingham resident, Jay also knows a great deal about the market, the neighborhoods, and the area as a whole, which was helpful to us in making decisions, particularly since we have only lived in Bellingham about three years. After we purchased our home, he provided local business recommendations for services we needed (moving, floor refinishing, interior design, etc.). Jay earned my trust and highest recommendation. I will continue to work with him for any real estate needs I may have in future. He is extremely hard-working, knowledgeable, conscientious, ethical, and kind. He also knows his way around a gif and has a sense of humor, which doesnt hurt when youre spending lots of time with someone and dealing with the stress of buying a home.
