We called Pete Testa to help us buy a house this Summer because we'd used him twice before -- once to buy a house, once to sell a house -- and felt we had both a professional relationship with him and a personal friendship with him as well. Clearly we didn't have either, and even more surprisingly to us, we didn't know him nearly as well as we thought we did. In the midst of the negotion and purchasing process, he left for vacation and never let us know he was going. Everyone is entitled to a vacation, of course, but if you have people you are responsible to, it is YOUR responsibility to let them know you're leaving and what they should do while you're away whether you're a realtor, a doctor, a dog walker, or a guy who cuts grass! Then he had a total attitude with us when we contacted him while he was on vacation and asked him to take care of something related to the paperwork. The deal was set to close a week a week after he came back, which he knew before he left, and there was no time to lose. We would have changed the closing date had we known he was going away, he never said a word about it.Adfitionally, he never checked the paperwork we received from the seller's agent to make sure it was complete and correct, which it wasn't -- I caught the error and contacted the seller's agent myself. I asked all the questions he should have asked on our behalf (and was getting paid to ask), I made all the requests he should have made on our behalf (and again, was getting paid to make), we did everything.From that point forward, we were on our own. Pete did nothing more -- and I mean nothing. He never even contacted us once when he got back from vacation.He never once contacted us again ...not to see if we needed help with anything, nothing. Fortunately we had prior experience with buying houses, the paperwork involved, and the overall process -- if we'd been 1st time home buyers, we'd have been totally lost, confused, and not have known what to do.The next time Pete surfaced was the day of closing WHEN HE CONTACTED MY LAWYER to pick up his commission check. The deal wasn't even complete yet and he was already calling them to make arrangements to drive 30 miles to get his money. After he called the lawyer and after the deal was done, I got an email from him saying "as you know, we closed on the house today... I wish you well..." , blah blah blah". Unbelievable. This is actually a revised review of Pete Testa. My original review of Pete Testa said "It doesn't do you any good to get a response from your realtor hours (or days) later...you want to hear from him NOW!! That's Pete Testa...he will get right back to you! " BUT I TAKE BACK EACH AND EVERY WORD OF MY PRIOR REVIEW after this experience with him.I will never recommend Pete Testa again after seeing his true colors through this experience. You always have to pay attention and remain vigilant throughtout the process when you're buying or selling a house but if you hire Pete Testa -- and I think he forgot we HIRED HIM and that he wasn't representing us out of the goodness of his heart or for free -- be sure you remain hyper vigilant and pay extra attention to everything Pete does so you always know what's going on...he may just suddenly go on vacation without ever mentioning it two weeks before you're closing and then tell you, with a total attitude :"I'm entitled to take a vacation, y'know."As the saying goes: "Let the buyer beware"...of Pete Testa in this case.
