We had been casually looking at homes for 3-4 years in the Westside and had met a few realtors when we decided to get serious about our home search. We were introduced to John Bathurst of the John Bathurst Group / Compass by a family member (also a Compass realtor in a different state) as we were finalizing the loan pre-approval process. We liked his vibe and went ahead and signed an exclusive agreement with him. Perhaps he gave us good luck because within a week, the first house we looked at together ended up being The One. John not only brought luck but also brought his experience and expertise as he gathered information from the seller's agent and devised an offer strategy for us. The home had been on the market for about a week, but we were the first and only offer. John's offer strategy was perfect. The seller countered but it was within the range we were hoping for, so we accepted and started escrow. Only 9 days had passed since we met John! During the escrow period he helped set up all the inspections, communicated with the seller's agent on various items, and calmed us down when we were stressed about the loan process. John was always available, professional and helpful when we had any questions or concerns and gave us a lovely gift when we closed on the home. Once we moved into our new home, John also helped us list our previous home as a rental property and assisted in screening potential tenants. While our home buying process together was a relative breeze, the home renting process took twice as long and probably way more hours than John anticipated. He set up several viewings and showings and had to deal with no-shows and wishy-washy people. Nevertheless, he persevered in finding a family to rent our home, set up all the paperwork and checked in a few times after the tenant had moved in. During the closing process, he remained a valuable resource, which was important to us as first time buyers. We were in constant communication, and he answered our numerous questions and we always felt like we had a teammate. He coordinated the inspections with reliable partners and made recommendations for 3rd parties like mortgage brokers, painters, and handymen. We are so grateful we worked with John. He was patient, collaborative, and warm. We were excited to get a celebratory drink with him after we closed!
