1.  What advice would you give a buyer trying to purchase a home?

Accepted Answer

Start by talking with a good lender and understanding what you can comfortably afford, not just what the bank says you qualify for. There are a lot more financing options available than most people realize, especially for first-time buyers.

Don't feel like you need to find the perfect house. Focus on finding the right home for your needs, budget, and future plans. I've helped hundreds of buyers navigate this process, and my biggest advice is to ask questions! A good Realtor should educate you, explain your options, and never pressure you into a decision you're not comfortable making.

2.  What advice would you give a seller trying to sell their home?

Price your home correctly from the beginning. One of the biggest mistakes sellers make is starting too high and assuming they can always lower the price later. The first few weeks on the market are incredibly important.

You also don't need to spend a fortune getting your home ready. Sometimes a little paint, decluttering, cleaning, and a few small repairs can make a big difference. I believe in being straightforward with sellers about what improvements are actually worth making.

The goal isn't just to sell your home. It's to get you the best possible outcome with the least amount of stress.

3.  What types of clients have you worked with?

I've worked with just about every type of buyer and seller you can imagine! First-time homebuyers, growing families, retirees, people relocating to the Fargo-Moorhead area, investors, and homeowners looking to downsize or move up.

I have extensive experience helping buyers explore FHA, VA, USDA, conventional, and low-down-payment financing options. I've also helped clients navigate new construction, rural properties, lake homes, and more complicated transactions.

One of my favorite parts of real estate is that every client's situation is different. After more than a decade in the business and involvement in over 1,200 transactions, I've learned that listening to what people actually need is one of the most important parts of the job.

4.  Describe a recent transaction you are fond of. How did it go?

Some of my favorite transactions are helping buyers who initially thought homeownership was out of reach.

I especially enjoy working with first-time buyers who aren't sure where to start or are worried they won't qualify for a mortgage. Taking the time to explain different financing programs, connect them with the right lender, and help them understand their options can completely change their outlook.

There's nothing quite like seeing someone get the keys to their first home, especially when they started the process believing it might not be possible. Those are the experiences that remind me why I love what I do.

5.  How did you get started in Real Estate?

I actually took a pretty unusual path into real estate. Before becoming a Realtor, I earned a business degree from North Dakota State University and an MBA, worked in several different industries, and even spent time working as a contractor in Afghanistan.

I started my real estate career in 2014 as an Inside Sales Agent with the Erik Hatch Team in Fargo. Over the next decade, I helped thousands of people navigate the early stages of buying and selling homes, made hundreds of thousands of phone calls, and was involved in more than 1,200 real estate transactions.

Eventually, I realized I wanted to be involved in the entire process, not just the beginning. I transitioned into working directly with buyers and sellers and joined The Elm Group, brokered by REAL.

That background gave me something pretty unique: years of experience understanding what buyers and sellers actually need before I ever started showing homes or writing offers.

6.  Do you have any special education or training that will benefit your clients?

I have a bachelor's degree in business from North Dakota State University, an MBA, and I'm also a Graduate Gemologist, which is a bit unusual for a Realtor!

Beyond formal education, I've spent more than a decade working in real estate sales, negotiation, lead conversion, and client communication. During my career, I've been recognized six times as a Top Inside Sales Agent and twice as an MVP.

I've also held real estate sales leadership positions, helping train and support other agents.

My business background helps me approach real estate analytically, whether that's evaluating a home's market value, negotiating an offer, understanding financing options, or helping clients make sound financial decisions. I believe good real estate advice should be based on facts, experience, and what's actually best for the client.
