We met Ms. Lewis, the listing agent, at an open house for certain property. We were not represented by a broker and she assured us that she would be representing our interests as well. However, this was not the case. She was clearly out for her own self interest, tried to rush us through a deal when we were acting quickly, cost us attorneys fees and the expense of a home inspection. When we attempted to bring in our own broker on the deal as we felt Ms. Lewis was not representing our interests (and primarily representing the seller), she informed us (in writing) that this was not allowed (although under NY law a buyer is always entitled to obtain their own broker) and got angry. She continued to procure other offers and even had a prospective buyer contact our engineer to conduct a home inspection on the property at issue. Then, while our contract was being negotiated, Ms. Lewis accepted another offer (which she was entitled) however, she did not even have the decency to contact us. We never heard from her again. This unscrupulous agent is clearly out for her own interests and we caution all prospective buyers to beware!
