I moved to Ames 23 years ago to attend Iowa State University, and loved our great city so much that I never left. I graduated from Iowa State with a degree in engineering, but quickly learned my passion is working with customers in Sales and Marketing. I believe my role as a realtor is to help guide clients through the sometimes confusing process of buying and selling a home. I believe this is best done with the heart of a teacher rather than the heart of a salesperson. I love working with people and enjoy giving my full attention to my clients. I put my heart and dedication into whatever I do, and my goal is to 100% satisfy my client's needs. I would love to help you find that perfect first home, look for a great place to retire, or even analyze cash flows for your next investment property. When I am working with my clients, I always imagine myself in their shoes and strive to provide the service that I would expect. I would want an agent that is honest, works tirelessly to find the perfect property, and always looks out for my families best interests. I believe this is exactly what I provide for my clients.

1. What advice would you give a buyer trying to purchase a home?
Start with a plan and work with someone you trust.
Buying a home is one of the biggest financial decisions you’ll make, and it can feel overwhelming at times. Taking the time to understand your budget, your priorities, and the local real estate market will help you move forward with confidence.
An experienced real estate agent should guide you through every step of the process, help you spot potential concerns, and represent you strongly during negotiations and inspections. The goal is not just to find a house you love, but to make a smart, informed decision that feels right long after closing.
2. What advice would you give a seller trying to sell their home?
Start with the right strategy from the beginning.
Pricing your home correctly and preparing it thoughtfully are two of the most important factors in a successful sale. Small improvements, proper staging, and strong marketing can make a significant difference in how quickly your home sells and the price you receive.
It’s also important to understand the current real estate market and what buyers are looking for. A knowledgeable agent should explain the data clearly, help you weigh your options, and guide you through offers and negotiations so you feel confident in every decision.
Selling a home is a big step. Having a clear plan and an experienced professional by your side makes the process smoother and far less stressful.
3. What types of clients have you worked with?
I’ve worked with first-time home buyers, growing families, downsizing homeowners, investors, and clients relocating to or from the area. Some are purchasing their very first home, while others are selling a property they’ve owned for decades.
Every situation is different. I enjoy helping clients understand their options, think through the details, and create a plan that fits their goals.
No matter the price point or stage of life, my focus is always on being responsive, honest, and steady throughout the process so clients feel informed and comfortable from start to finish.
4. Describe a recent transaction you are fond of. How did it go?
One transaction I’m especially fond of involved the sale of a home the sellers had lived in for over 40 years. It was full of memories, and the process felt overwhelming for them. There was deferred maintenance, decades of belongings to sort through, and a real struggle over whether to sell the home as is or invest in repairs.
We slowed things down and talked through the options carefully. Together, we chose a few updates that would make a meaningful difference without over-investing. I coordinated contractors, connected them with trusted movers, and arranged for a local charitable organization to pick up excess household items once they were ready.
After we went under contract, we faced some tough negotiations around inspection repairs. Older homes often come with surprises, but we handled the conversations calmly and worked toward practical solutions that protected the sellers while keeping the transaction moving forward.
The home sold successfully, and the sellers were relieved and genuinely happy knowing the new buyer was going to cherish it as much as they had. A few weeks later, they stopped by and dropped off a handmade gift as a thank you. I still keep it on my desk as a reminder of how meaningful this work can be.
5. How did you get started in Real Estate?
I started in real estate twelve years ago with a simple goal, to build a business that could serve our local community.
Over the years, I’ve worked with more than 400 clients, each with different needs and challenges. I’ve always enjoyed solving problems and helping people think through important decisions, and real estate allows me to do that every day.
At heart, I’m a teacher. I believe in explaining the process clearly, answering questions honestly, and helping people feel confident about their next steps.
6. Do you have any special education or training that will benefit your clients?
Yes. I hold several professional designations, including:
GRI (Graduate, REALTOR® Institute) – Advanced training in contracts, legal issues, and real estate best practices.
ABR (Accredited Buyer’s Representative) – Specialized education in representing and protecting buyers.
SRES (Seniors Real Estate Specialist) – Focused training in helping homeowners 55+ navigate downsizing and major life transitions.
CNE (Certified Negotiation Expert) – Advanced negotiation strategies to help clients achieve stronger terms.
I genuinely enjoy continuing education and regularly take new classes to stay current and better serve my clients.

Misty and her real estate team in Ames are truly wonderful to work with! We bought a new home and sold our old home on an accelerated timeline this year and everything worked out seamlessly! Misty's connections in the real estate industry helped us easily and quickly get flexible financing for our new home and get our old home into shape for sale! She has a diligent and attentive client care team that helped us out whenever we had a worry or a question. The staging and presentation of our home were better than any other listings on the market and definitely helped it sell quickly. The photography was stellar! Whatever your situation, Misty will be able to find a solution for you and put you in the right home! I cannot recommend a better realtor!

This was my wife's and I's second time working with Misty. We decided to start looking for a new home because our family was growing and we wanted more space in a better school district. We worked with Misty Metschke, and she was absolutely fantastic to work with from start to finish. We first chose Misty because she offered a free first-time homebuyer information session, which really stood out and made us feel informed and supported from the beginning. Misty is incredibly knowledgeable about the Ames market and was always responsive, keeping us updated at every step. She made both the buying and selling process smooth and stress-free, and we truly felt she had our best interests in mind the whole way through. Wed highly recommend Misty Metschke to anyone looking to buy or sell a home in the Ames area, especially families looking for someone who genuinely listens and goes above and beyond to help them find the right fit.

We had a very positive experience working with Misty on our home purchase. She has an excellent understanding of the local real estate market and can provide a data-driven approach for buyers who prefer it. Misty and her team were responsive and provided great client service. She also recommended local lenders, and we ended up choosing one of her recommendations. We appreciated her guidance throughout the process and would gladly recommend her to other buyers!
