Melanie provided all the necessities to put our home on the market - professional photography, staging, listing on the MLS. We had a good amount of showings in the beginning but nothing ever materialized. After that showings were very infrequent. She had a few open houses (which were held not by her but by others). I felt these other people did not know our home so could not intelligently promote it's advantages. We finally got an offer after more than 5 months on the market. Unfortunately, Melanie had scheduled a trip to Switzerland and was gone for 10 days during the time of negotiating home inspection issues. There were major issues the buyers wanted addressed including a new roof, new windows, etc. We agreed to almost every point (insurance paid for a new roof, we repaired - not replaced 7 windows), had radon mediation, replaced/fixed posts to the screened porch, etc., all for almost $7000. When she returned from her trip, she felt we shouldn't have done so much, that these buyers were still looking at homes, that they would probably walk away. She had a very negative attitude. We did not see her nor hear from her for 3 weeks or more, till about a week before our closing. She complained our attorney was not copying her on correspondence, that she didn't even know the date or place of the closing. If this was so, why did she not contact the attorney. Our attorney advised us not to attend the closing, so we didn't. Everything went fine with the closing and our attorney called us to come and pick up our check at the title company. There in the parking lot, we see Melanie drive in also. She was not at the closing, but she had come to pick up her check. Later that day, Melanie calls us saying there was an error concerning the commission. We talked to our attorney who advised us that the closing is done and if she had made an error, then that was her mistake and she had to live with it. He was surprised she was not at the closing and suggested if she was then maybe the error could have been rectified before everything was finalized. She however has been calling, texting, emailing us for a couple weeks now wanting us to address this. We had been responding to her, but now do not. I hope she has accepted the consequences of her mistake. I wish her well.

I am extremely proud to refer her to anyone in the Barrington area looking to sell.Prior to listing our home, Melanie confidently assured us that we could list it for far higher than we we thought prior to going through the process. The first open house and set of showings, the weekend after the listing went up, resulted in 3 highly competitive offers, one of which we countered near our initial asking price, and Melanie successfully negotiated down the financing contingency substantially.Following this, Melanie helped us through virtually everything, from negotiating after the inspection report came back, to keeping us updated on everything through the bank appraisal. In fact, when the buyer was stubbornly expecting us to pay entirely for a whimsical fix (rerouting the air ducts), Melanie even kicked in some of her own cash on top of what we were offering to make the deal go through. She is just a one of those "get-things-done" kind of persons!Through much of the process, we were already out of state on to our next endeavor. But Melanie would always respond to inquiries well within an hour, even when they were sent at night or on the weekends.
