I have been living in Avalon New Jersey for twenty-five years. My family has owned a house on Sixth Street for over 50 years years. In that time, the Seven Mile Island has changed dramatically. Prices are at an all time high, the demand for housing is still greater than that of properties available, and the town is more beautiful than ever. When I think of what hasn't changed, one thing comes to mind, Avalon New Jersey is still "Cooler By A Mile"!! After attending college at the University of Delaware, I went looking for adventure. In high school, I was always fascinated with commercial fishing. The thrill of being at sea, the danger, and of course the large payoffs. So I gave it a try. I was employed on a boat from Sea Isle City and unaware of what lie on the road ahead. The grueling work and long hours were definitely not in the "brochure". But after getting the opportunity to travel to Venezuela, Iceland, and other exotic places, I thought it was a great career. Things changed, of course. After nearly drowning from being knocked over board, and one too many calls to my wife from the emergency room, I decided to find a new line of work -- a job that would keep me inside and off the icy decks of a fishing boat during the months of January and February. I decided to sell real estate in Avalon and Stone Harbor. It is safer, warmer, and much more rewarding (and my wife tells me I smell better).
