ZillowVERIFIED Review for Realtor John aEUR" 9214 Lorton Valley Rd, Lorton, VA 22079 I recently had a very disappointing experience with John regarding the rental of 9214 Lorton Valley Rd in Lorton, VA. After selecting the property, he promptly sent me a background check link, which I completed within an hour, even though it was late at night. Shortly after, he informed me that the landlord would proceed with me and requested a deposit to secure the rental. Before sending any money, I respectfully asked to review a draft of the lease. I called him several times the next day and sent emails, but received no response. The following day, I called again, left a voicemail, and followed up by email. Still no responseaEUR"until I received a text in the evening saying he would call me within an hour. He finally called after more than an hour and made excuses about being too busy. During our conversation, his behavior regarding the lease raised major concerns. He insisted that I should only aEURoefill in the blanksaEUR? and discouraged me from reading the lease in full. When I asked basic questionsaEUR"such as whether the lease included trash removal, water bills, or who would handle maintenanceaEUR"he dismissed them, saying he had never seen a tenant ask about a lease before. He repeatedly mentioned that multiple people were ready to rent the property without even reviewing the lease, which felt like pressure tactics. When I told him I intended to have an attorney review the lease, he became visibly upset and told me he would only send it that night if I agreed to sign immediately, otherwise the property was aEURoenot a good fitaEUR? for me. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable moving forward and chose to walk away from the rental. In my opinion, this conduct was unprofessional and concerning. A tenant has every right to review a lease and ask questions before signing or paying a deposit. The lack of transparency and the dismissive attitude toward these reasonable requests made this an extremely negative experience.

From the moment we met John, we were impressed by his professional demeanor and his in-depth knowledge of all aspects of the fluctuating real estate market. Johns approach is highly ethical and collaborative. We liked that John is very active in industry associations and teaching, bringing the latest knowledge to our sale. He consulted with colleagues about various marketing aspects and, in negotiations with the buyers agents, strove for and achieved win-win solutions. John advised us regarding the preparation of our home, which required a great deal of cosmetic upgrading. We were, at first, reluctant to invest much capital, but John explained to us in detail, how the upgrades would greatly enhance the marketability of our home. Once we signed on with John, he got to work hiring the plumber, electrician, landscaper and other tradespeople to perform the necessary work under his guidance. John was also a hands-on dynamo. He took the time to choose attractive and functional appliances as well as lighting and plumbing fixtures, all while getting budget-friendly value for our investment.John developed the homes color scheme and even planned the directional focus of the recessed lighting to optimize work spaces in the kitchen. John paid in advance for the parts and labor, kept track of all the expenses and provided us with invoices prior to settlement. We invested approximately $30,000 and are convinced that we received a return of 2 times to 3 times that amount in terms of the higher price our home sold for, as well as a much quicker and smoother sale. John planned the staging, timing, and marketing of our home. It immediately received a lot of interest and in less than a week we received viable offers. John was able to assess the relative strengths and risks of each offer. With his extensive contacts and persuasive skills he managed to steer the buyer to competent lenders and settlement agents that got their functions done on time without glitches. John was in contact with us several times a week during the renovation and sales processes to discuss progress and support us in our decision making. The more we worked with John the more we trusted him, and half way through the process we trusted him completely and asked him to do what he thought best. Even after that he continued to consult with us on all aspects of the renovation, sale, and closure. John is a highly skilled negotiator and handled last minute problems that developed to get the deal closed. We selected John Young because he came to the interview fully prepared to discuss the property with lots of analytical information that he had gathered in advance. He also brought personal information about himself that included awards and reviews he had received, and info about his selling record. After carefully touring my home for a little over an hour, he made several suggestions for how to approach preparing the house to get it ready to sell. Before leaving the first visit to my home, he had already formed a plan for how he would approach the sale and what he anticipated me walking away with and the potential road blocks and how we would overcome them. The house received multiple offers and was sold quickly for above asking. ZillowVERIFIED I interviewed 5 agents before deciding to go with John. Even with my small sample size, I could tell there are different tiers of real estate agents. John is definitely in the top tier. During the initial interview, he took the time to thoroughly answer my questions and explain the home buying process and his role in that process in detail. As a first time homebuyer, he filled me in on aspects I didn't even know I had questions about.Throughout the process, John was attentive to my questions and took the time to call me back and discuss any concerns I had. He treated everyone we interacted with respectfully, which I believe was instrumental in getting my offer accepted. He had excellent intuition for what the DC market was doing this summer.
