We had worked with another realtor and had lost all hope of being able to afford a nice house within our budget, but when we found John through a listing in the newspaper, he helped us immensely. He has been knowledgeable in so many ways and has all the right connections. He had helped us find a lender that was able to give us the most for budget and we were able to purchase our first home with ease in a then, fast-paced market. Now, the market today is an even different story. Prices are inflated and houses sell fast. As much as we loved our first home, we were ready for a change because we outgrew our home. John was there for the sale of our 9 year home and also there for helping us find the new home we have today. Our transfer was almost seamless (because we can't always control other people who get cold feet) We knew we could depend on John for his knowledge and expertise because he had walked us through it before. He let us know about what causes smells in some homes, how we could fix it if we liked the home enough, how much a house should really cost, what that funny architecture feature in the home is, how we could negotiate because of a nearby highway, or what areas were better for kids. He listens to your wants and helps you get what you want and need! Also, he's a nice, stand-up guy. You will be entertained and feel like you're getting honest answers because you are! He takes the time to talk with you about the process and tells you about what updates a house may need for you to consider. He's also available for calls and texts and responds very quickly. Your success is his success. In the end, everyone will be happy.

We had our home listed on the east side of Gurnee with another agent for a year without an offer. When we listed with John right away he had ideas, priced us correctly and went above and beyond the entire time. He contacted buyer's agents to let them know what you don't see in the listing (the bathrooms were older and out of date). When we had an issue in the attic during inspection he ran right over to look and take pictures and when we had to move something out the night before closing he volunteered a trailer and work to help remove it. You will have no idea how kind his messages were when the Covid pandemic started. Did I mention that we had an offer within 4 days of listing the home in the pandemic and we closed!

In 2011, John helped me buy my first home and when it was time to move onward and upward I knew just who to call. Nine years later, I called John to inquire the possibilities and the what ifs. February 2020, John came with a great amount of research and many answers to my questions. We originally talked about placing my house on the market April 2nd. He was very flexible with me when I changed my mind and put my house on the market Thursday, March 19th even though he had previous engagements and would be unavailable during our first big weekend. To now avail, John put me in good hands and Carmen worked patiently, professionally, and into late hours to make sure I got the best offer for my house. After staging recommendations and fantastic photos with preparation advice, I had multiple offers on Friday. I can't say enough about how cautious and prepared John and Carmen were during our time of CoVid-19. During our opening weekend, signs were placed for safety, gloves were provided, and multiple offers came forward. By Sunday, 3 days after putting the house on the market, Carmen worked with me to get the best offer for my home. I cannot recommend John Steele and Carmen Garcia Mateus enough as I move onto my new chapter.
