ZillowVERIFIED OK, when I was much younger, I went to Janet (a complete stranger) in her real estate office, and said "Hey, here's how much money I have, and I want something in a nice neighborhood, preferably three bedrooms...She paused thoughtfully, and said: "I know what you want to do. But it's going to take some time."We were both patient, and Janet was easy and fun to work with. And we got a house that was perfect, for a price that I had no business getting.Then we sold that house, with Janet, a few years later, for (6 figures plus) more than we paid. Yes, much of that was luck and the market. But the biggest thing was that the market was poised to change, and she helped me get in on the front-end.When we sold that one, we had to buy, and were looking for our upgraded grown-up home. And by dealing with Janet, we had access to the listing about an hour after it went on the market, because she was on it. The house we would spend decades in.She and I had been looking for a few weeks, and when she gave me the address, I agreed to meet her. As I drove toward the address, I got more and more sure that there was no way we could get a house in that area, with that square footage, for that price. Other people lived in that neighborhood, not me. It was the beginning of the weekend.I will never forget her phone call the next morning - a Sunday. We were walking down State Street, and to this day, every time we pass that spot, I remember. That's where I got the news that we'd obtained a home that was more than I dreamed of. This was the place where we would raise our children.I'm not exaggerating: Janet helped make my whole home and financial life possible, for the last 20 years.I know that real estate is largely based on comps and and the market. She and I worked as partners, and we never expected miracles. But when you feel comfortable with someone, and work well as a team, you can make amazing things happen.Janet never once made me feel that any of her motivation was sales-driven. She never once made me feel that I was being unreasonable or that my priorities were different from hers.I highly recommend her as a selling or buying agent. Especially for a first-timer. The last deal had her running to the county building dept for permits, battling with lenders and appraisers to get the right number for us.
