About James Barrus
Father, Husband, Veteran, and Premier Real Estate Professional in Upstate South Carolina. I decided to persue real estate after a decade working in banking due to negative experiences with previous realtors in my personal life. I knew that with my extensive experience serving others in both civilian and military sectors that I would be able to change lives by providing the experience and education needed to allow anyone I work with to make the most informed decision possible about the biggest transactions they will ever deal with. For this reason I have such a passion for helping first-time homebuyers and veterans especially, as these populations get taken advantage of more, and need a highly motivated advocate on their side.
Community Involvement
Being a veteran and Army Reserve Suicide Prevention Liaison, I'm as active as I can be in multiple veteran outreach groups. I'm also very active in my local neighborhood/HOA, and organize multiple events every year for our favorite holidays, Halloween and Christmas.

While it does matter to have a GOOD realtor, any realtor is better than none when purchasing a home, to provide a fiduciary duty to you and protect your interests so you don't get taken advantage of.
Same as for buyers, except it's even more important to have a realtor who knows the area and market well. The number one thing that determines how much money you end up with at the end of the day is the very first pricing of your home when listing, as days on market and price drops both drastically increase the likelihood of buyers trying to negotiate harder off your list price, and you will have less total options to work with.
Primarily I love to work with, and focus on reaching First-Time Homebuyers and Veterans. I will work with anyone in need, but love the aspect of education and advocation in real estate, and those populations need the most assistance and get taken advantage of most.
Most recently I've been working with a veteran couple who was torn between buying a fixer upper that they can turn into their dream home, or finally getting the break they deserve in life by going for a newer turn-key home. Most realtors these days seem like they aim to have their clients see as few homes as possible in their search before putting in an offer, and I embraced this opportunity to see as many homes as possible with my clients to help them make such an important decision in their life that they will be living with for decades to come.
After working in banking for a decade, my wife and I decided to make a move unexpectedly to Greenville, but after having multiple negative experiences with other realtors, I decided I could make a difference, and a living, by serving others better than I was, and making a difference in their lives by being the most excellent realtor in upstate SC.
Almost two decades of military experience, and 15 years in customer service has given me the attention to detail and dedication to handle any situation that is thrown at me, no matter how unexpected or complicated. I live for the opportunity to prove myself by overcoming challenges.
