Our Story
Paton Real Estate, LLC, was founded in McLean, VA by Principal Broker, Donna Paton in 2002. In 2015, the office relocated to Tysons Corner. Paton had co-hosted a series of gourmet food and wine client events and ordered client gifts from Fern Street Gourmet in Alexandria over the years. In March of 2020, Covid-19 rendered the Tysons office building inaccessible. Paton Real Estate partnered with Fern Street Gourmet and is now located inside Fern Street Gourmet at 1708 Fern Street, Alexandria, VA 22302.
Principal Broker Donna Paton, a native Washingtonian, earned her bachelor's degree in Management and Consumer Affairs from the University of Maryland, College Park. She worked with Raytheon Service Company, Advanced Technology and RCI serving different branches of the U.S. Military and the Saudi Naval Expansion Program. She held a top-secret clearance. Paton began her real estate career in 1987, as Director of Sales and Marketing for Fishing Creek Farm, a 200-acre residential waterfront community in Annapolis, MD. with 180 lots for sale. Her clients include custom builders and buyers of custom homes starting at $1,350,000.00. In 1990, Donna moved to McLean, Virginia and worked as an international business consultant traveling frequently to many countries in Europe and Asia. Later, she became the Director of Communications at Sonitrol Corporation, an international security firm headquartered in Alexandria, VA. In 1996, Paton listed and sold homes for Weichert, Realtors McLean until 2002 when she opened Paton Real Estate, LLC.

A friend from college invited me to a pool party at her new house where I was crushing it in a volleyball game in the pool. My teammate next to me at the net asked a million questions about my defense contracting career. At the end of the game, he said , "if you apply your skill set to real estate, you would make millions!" He arranged a meeting the next week with one of DC's largest developers. It took him a year to convince me. I became the Director of Project Marketing and Sales at Fishing Creek Farm in Annapolis, MD selling parcels of land to builders and custom homes to buyers. My first home sale was $1,350,000.00 (in 1987). That day I was sold on my new career in real estate and have loved it ever since!
I am a believer in education and always expanding your knowledge and skill set. I constantly take classes and earn designations. I earned the Senior Real Estate Specialist designation and gained valuable knowledge to help the elderly with the specific needs and issues they may encounter in a real estate transaction. I also value the e-PRO designation which keeps me on top of the ever changing technology I can employ in service my clients. I am also a Virginia State Licensed Salesperson Instruction which keeps me up to date. Also, I am a qualified Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) instructor to teach first time buyer classes.
