Derek assured me that there were still buyers in the area and also to price my house aggressively. I trusted Derek, so I let him take the lead. The house went on the market the week before Thanksgiving and we had four offers the same day and one of them was over asking price! The buyers that eventually bought the property were the second to see the house and that was only two hours after it went on the market!I could not have asked for a better outcome. The home buying process is a daunting task, especially for the first time. Not really knowing where to begin, I called Derek seeking advice. I knew he couldn't be my agent from another State, but I simply wanted some direction. After a brief discussion, Derek told me he would search his database, read some reviews, make some calls, and find an agent in my area who would be a good fit. He contacted Roger Murray and explained who he was, who I was, and what my wife and I were in the market for. Derek told me to expect a text and a call shortly, and I would be all set to find my first home! I didn't know what to expect, however, Derek found me the best agent ... aside from himself of course! My wife and I reviewed a list of homes in our desired area (Provided by Roger, based on our discussion and Derek's initial discussion). The next day we visited two homes in the same neighborhood, and we ended up buying the second one! I grew up in the Rochester, NY area, and have known Derek a long time. Coming from my friends, this means A LOT. I called Derek for the first time on a Tuesday night at roughly 10pm. I was first surprised that he answered his phone that late and then to boot, we carried on a discussion for almost 20 minutes. We scheduled an appointment for the next day, yes, THE NEXT DAY at 9am to meet with himself and his mortgage broker. This was by far the most low key interaction I have ever had. He is extremely casual yet still extremely professional, and for me, that is huge. I dont want or need a pushy realtor/salesman in my life. He listened to my extensive wish list and got me pre-approved in well under an hour. Not knowing anything about how long the process would take, I was shocked with his work ethic. By the end of the day Wednesday, my email inbox was flooded with potential homes. Obviously we narrowed down quite a few down but he listened to every word I mentioned and sent more qualifying homes with my interests. By that Saturday we were on the road looking at homes. Very impressive. We found a home we liked that I just so happen to have seen several times previously online. We placed an offer. Two days later we had our inspections, which Derek attended. He was there well before and well after the inspector had left. He was a huge help and very knowledgeable with not only the showings, but also with the inspection. Who would have thought that a realtor knew much about reno/repairs? Moving on, the process was very drawn out. And by no means was it Dereks fault. It was an estate sale and many, many signatures were required. Oh well. I was very anxious of course and called or emailed Derek on a daily basis, if not more. Each time, he would immediately respond and reach out to the selling realtor for an update. Needless to say, he was always there. No question was too big or too small. If he didnt know the answer, he would get the answer, and quickly. What I liked most about the entire process was one thing, my realtor. And I can honestly say and mean that. I am in no way, someone who is easy to deal with, however that didnt bother him one bit. He again, was always there when I had questions. Most importantly, and what stood out to us the most was simple, he isnt just a realtor, he isnt just doing his job, he is genuinely a great guy who just so happens to be great at his job! If you need a realtor who is fantastic in his field and someone who is a wealth of knowledge, its a no brainer, Derek Heerkens is your man.
