We built our home, with the hopes of one day having kids. We were planning for the future. Fast forward towards September 2015, when we finally decided that the adoption process was not working for us. It was a difficult decision that we didn?t take lightly. All of a sudden, we found ourselves in a kid friendly neighborhood, wonderful neighbors, but knew that it was no longer the fit for us. We went with the recommendation of a neighbor and signed a contract with a local realtor husband/wife team in St. Charles. They listed our home at the end of September, not knowing how long the process would take, given the market was already slowing for the winter. We both travel for work and were worried about how showings would take place when we were out of town. We needed extra help from our realtor team, especially since we were on the road. During the middle part of October, we had a disagreement over showing ?protocol? while we were away. We expected that lights would be turned off and house secure following a showing, etc., given that we would be out of town for days at a time. We didn?t see eye to eye on this issue, which led us to consider an alternative to our listing agent. We were told by our realtors that they thought it would be best for us to part ways. All of a sudden, we were faced with the daunting task of finding a new realtor. We were worried at how much time we would lose during the transition period. I contacted the woman who had previously sold our house, who no longer worked for the builder. We had not spoken for awhile and I asked who she thought we should use to list our house. Without hesitating, she replied, ?If you would have asked me at the very beginning of your process, I would have told you that Cindy Schmalz would have been your perfect fit.? I contacted Cindy and she answered on the first try. We had met Cindy, in passing, probably one time before, since we shared a mutual friend. She listed our house with a friend of ours, Beverly Wolff, who also works for Coldwell Banker. We were hesitant with asking a friend to list our house from the beginning. Beverly made a great point and said, ?If you can?t trust your friends, who can you trust, if you happen to have disagreements? Your friends look out for you more during this type of process.? Cindy and Beverly jumped into action at the end of October. They set up a meeting with us the following day, went over comps in the neighborhood and surrounding areas, scheduled for professional photographs to be taken, and had our house re listed within three days of the initial call for help. Throughout the process, Cindy and Beverly were excellent communicators, negotiators, honest, professional, down to earth, kind, and genuine women who were an absolute pleasure to work with. They went above and beyond at every turn and even injected a little humor along the way. Cindy is very knowledgeable when it comes to the Geneva market, Mill Creek, in particular. To our pleasant surprise and amazement, we had a contract on our house approximately four weeks after listing, just before the Thanksgiving holiday. We closed on our house at the end of December. Cindy even represented us at the closing table, since we already had plans to be out of town for the holidays. I cannot thank Cindy and Beverly enough for holding our hands throughout an emotional process. It was hard to let go of our first house build, but know that we made the right decision. We are now looking forward to living in downtown Geneva. We have fallen in love with our community and the friends we have made. We are looking forward to many more years in Geneva.
