ZillowVERIFIEDI was looking for a home in the Concord, MA area and when I saw one that I was interested in I contacted Cathy Stewart whose name had popped up on Zillow . I then asked her to show us the property. Then the fun began. She asked me several times to make an appointment with her in her office in Acton and to bring with me a mortgage pre-approval letter from a lender. When I responded that we intended to pay cash (the property was at the low end of the $900,000 median home price Concord market) her attempt to 'qualify us' continued. She wanted to know if we were "working with anyone else" or "just seeing houses you like and calling a broker to show them to you". This latter question was asked with a sneer in her voice as though seeing a property one liked and then asking a broker to show it to you was a bad thing. When we finally got to see the property she was late for the appointment and clearly didn't have much knowledge of the Concord market. The listing agent who was from Concord ( and who arrived early) had all the knowledge and market insights. In retrospect, we should have contacted a broker from Concord. All in all, I was disappointed by her aggressiveness. She could have easily determined our net worth with a few tactfully phrased questions about our employment , past residence, clubs we might have belonged to and our age rather than insist that I bring a 'pre-approval" letter out to her office in Acton. I think she has been to one too many weekend real estate seminars on how to make a fortune in real estate by controlling your customer. Sorry, that isn't how it works. In the real world a sales person succeeds by adding value to the transaction, not showing that he/she can 'control' the buyer/prospect. Would I recommend her? No. She lacks the tact and skill set to do an effective job.
