Long before I became a real estate professional, I dedicated my career to education—earning a master’s degree in education and serving as a high school guidance counselor. In that role, I was entrusted with one of the most important responsibilities imaginable: guiding young people at a crossroads in their lives, helping them make choices about their futures, and supporting them through moments of uncertainty, excitement, and transition. What I didn’t realize at the time was that this passion for guidance, mentorship, and advocacy would become the foundation for my second career—real estate. The skills I honed in the classroom and counseling office didn’t just translate into this new field; they gave me a perspective that has become the heart of my work today. This is the story of how I got started in real estate—how my background in education shaped my professional journey, how my love for people guided my path, and how I found my purpose in helping families find not just houses, but homes. From the Classroom to Counseling: Building a Foundation of Service Before real estate ever entered my mind, education was my world. I pursued my master’s in education because I believed deeply in the power of teaching, mentoring, and equipping others with the tools they needed to thrive. Working as a high school guidance counselor gave me a front-row seat to some of the most important moments in a young person’s life. Day after day, I sat across from students who were facing decisions that would shape their futures. Some were navigating academic challenges. Others were exploring college and career paths. Many were simply trying to figure out who they were and what they wanted their next chapter to look like. My role was never about telling them what to do—it was about listening, guiding, and helping them discover the answers within themselves. That, to me, was the art of counseling: creating a safe space, asking the right questions, offering encouragement, and helping people feel empowered to make informed decisions. Looking back now, I realize that these same skills—listening, guiding, and empowering—are the very foundation of real estate. At the time, I didn’t know that my counseling office was preparing me for living rooms and open houses, but the parallels are undeniable. Recognizing a New Opportunity The shift from education to real estate didn’t happen overnight. It began with a spark—an idea that maybe the skills I had cultivated could be used in a different way. I had always been fascinated by homes and the way they represented more than physical spaces; they were places where families built their lives, where children grew up, where people felt safe, and where memories were created. I remember sitting at my desk one afternoon after a long day of counseling sessions, and the thought came to me: “What if I could combine my love for guiding people with my interest in real estate?” It felt like a far-fetched idea at first, but the more I thought about it, the more sense it made. Real estate, after all, is full of major life decisions—choices that are emotional, financial, and deeply personal. Just like my students needed a counselor to help them navigate their futures, buyers and sellers need someone to help them navigate the complex, overwhelming process of real estate. And just as my students came from diverse backgrounds and situations, every client in real estate has a unique story, need, and dream. The more I reflected, the more I realized that this wasn’t just a career change—it was a natural extension of who I already was. Taking the Leap Leaving education wasn’t easy. Teaching and counseling had been my identity for years, and stepping away from that world meant saying goodbye to a career I had once envisioned as lifelong. But I also knew that my heart was being pulled in a new direction. When I finally made the decision to pursue real estate, I approached it the way I approached everything else—with dedication, discipline, and a learner’s mindset. I dove into my licensing courses, eager to soak up as much knowledge as possible. The textbooks and exams were new, but the underlying principles felt familiar: people needed guidance, structure, and trust to make sound decisions. I’ll never forget my first few transactions. I was nervous, of course, but also deeply motivated. The families I worked with weren’t just clients—they were real people relying on me to help them through one of the biggest decisions of their lives. Every time I handed over a set of keys or helped a seller move on to their next chapter, I felt the same sense of fulfillment I once felt when a student found their path. I realized quickly that I had found my new calling. I love what i get to do every day :)
