Sam Livingston

I grew up in Florida around the Ocala National Forest, so naturally the outdoors has always been a large part of my life. Graduating high school at age 17, I joined the active duty Marine Corps and spent 6 years as a Reconnaissance Marine. During that period I was fortunate enough to travel to five continents and participate in several deployments before fulfilling my active duty service commitment in 1997 and work towards a degree in business administration which I completed in 1998. I have always had a deep sense of patriotism and a desire to serve my country which compelled me to return to service as a reservist in 1999. I served all of 2005 in Iraq on a route clearance mission in the Baghdad area. Again in 2009 I was activated for service in Afghanistan as an infantry mentor embedded with the Afghanistan National Army. While unfortunate to have to leave my family twice to fulfill my service obligations, I consider myself incredibly blessed for having gone and experiencing that period of our country's history first hand. The periods of my military service have defined me, my character, and my personal beliefs more profoundly than anything I will likely face ever again. I support the men and women that are trying to finish the task and pray for a quick and safe return to their families.
