About Mike Takao
Originally from San Antonio, I've been in Texas my whole life. I began my real estate career in Austin in early 2003 with Keller Williams Realty. I've remained loyal to Keller Williams Realty ever since and obtained my broker's license in 2014 to start the Takao Home Team. Since then, we've become one of the top producing teams within our market center, with the team reaching the #1 team in 2020, 2021, and 2021. My team and I have represented clients in over 500 transactions throughout my career. It's not work when you enjoy what you're doing, and I've been fortunate enough to work with great clients that I consider family. As our client base grows, so does our team. Figure out what you need in the home, versus what you want in the home. Sometimes it's hard to determine the difference between the two. You can compromise on your wants, but you do not want to compromise on what you need!
Financially, it's important that you do not overextend yourself to buy your new home. Find out what your maximum budget is, have a detailed consultation with a mortgage lender, and target a price point under that. This will save you a lot of headache later. Keep in mind, the rates may be fixed, but the taxes and insurance are not! You want to make sure there's cushion there.
The agent you select should be educating you on the market, both in a macro and a micro sense. How is the overall market of your area doing? How is your specific neighborhood doing in comparison? The more educated your agent is, the more educated you will be on your home sale. The agent should help you determine the optimal way to market, prepare your home, and price your home. The better these three things are handled, the more successful your home sale will be!

We just closed a home last week with a client relocating from Wisconsin. She is a retired mother that sought to move closer to her family here in Texas. The excitement she showed at closing was infectious and it really reminded me of why I decided to become a real estate agent. The great, big hug she gave me as we walked to her car wasn't bad either.
Real Estate has always been an interest to me, even during my years in college. After graduating, I moved to Austin and sat down with the team lead at Keller Williams Realty Northwest to get an idea of what that career looks like. Everything that was discussed spoke to me and I've not looked back since.
Being a real estate agent requires experience. While I am a certified condo specialist and a graduate of multiple courses throughout my career, what I've come to realize is practice makes perfect. Nothing comes close to what you learn from being involved in hundreds of transactions. Education can prepare you to a certain extent, but experience is the best teacher of all.
