Born in rural southeastern Wisconsin on her father's family's original land grant farm that is still retained by the family, she is the oldest of five children. This active household was multi-generational with grandmother, great uncle and great aunt residing along with parents and children. Her father's veterinary practice was also located on this working farm. She loved assisting her father with the animals, always had her own pony to ride and excelled in the same one room school house that her father attended. In 1964 the growing family moved to Lexington, Kentucky. If you ask her, Martha will tell you she is a Kentucky girl as she loves this beautiful state where she attended junior high, high school and college where she again excelled in academics. The veterinary thread continues in her life, meeting husband, Bill, through her father's equine veterinary practice when he was interning. A joyous wedding then took them from Miami to Chicago with successful careers but not a satisfied "life". With no responsibilities for children, pets, or real estate, it was easy for them to claim a four month hiatus as "ski bums" in Steamboat Springs, CO. Serving multi-purposes as a honeymoon and an opportunity to set their goals, they blew all their cash and became expert skiers! The Louisville, KY area was their next stop and forty-five years later, is still their home. It has been an excellent place to live and raise a family. Lifelong Learning..... If you consult Wikipedia, lifelong learning is defined as the "ongoing, voluntary, and self-motivated" pursuit of knowledge for either personal or professional reasons. Therefore, it not only enhances social inclusion, active citizenship and personal development, but also competitiveness and employability. Martha would agree she has lived this pursuit! Textiles, clothing, merchandising and consumer economics major in college sent her into her first professional job teaching at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. From there, as a new bride in Miami, FL, she taught at Florida International University and worked in the buyer program for Federated Department Stores. In Chicago, she worked for a nuclear medicine company organizing their training programs. In Louisville she went to work at Byck's Department Store and became full partner in her husband's veterinary business. Then it was on to The Courier-Journal where she had a successful 15-year career in display advertising. Fortunate enough to stay home for the primary school years with son, Bart, she then applied all those learned skills to volunteering for the school, her sorority alum group and her P.E.O. Chapter. P.E.O. is a philanthropic educational organization that is God based and raises money for educational scholarships, grants and loans. It even owns it own college, Cottey College, in Nevada, MO. All of these experiences, combined with her genuine love and interest in all people, prepared Martha for what she is today--a top professional realtor earning the number one office spot in sales volume and sides multiple times in the Louisville market. Experience isn't enough..... In today's ever changing market, experience just isn't enough anymore. You must be a perpetual student and bring skills to the table that combine the best of everything and everyone to problem solve each transaction to a successful close. Martha's life path has prepared her for this and her top standing in the real estate community proves this success every day for her clients. You will find Martha out and about in the Eastern Jefferson and Oldham County areas in her signature vests, wearing her Dansko shoes and driving her Suburban that she loves to fill up with people for all kinds of adventures. If you get a note or email from her, you will find it signed with XOXO by her name-symbols of sincerity, faith and honesty. Let Martha's top professional connections, current research of the market, genuine enthusiasm and casual, calm style guide you in your next residential real estate venture. She is good at what she does and you will be glad you chose her! And, she just might have a story or two to tell you as a new Grandmother and she will be anxious to hear your stories, too!
