Maya Angelou said, "We may encounter many defeats, but we must not be defeated." Though Kim Mkhwane may not have recognized it at the time, her triumph over a tumultuous upbringing would provide the courage and fortitude to carve her own path, build her own family, and strive for success. Kim was born in Citrus County and raised by a single mom who struggled with life challenges of her own. At the age of 12, Kim was abandoned by her father without explanation. Though these events would rock the foundation of any child's existence, instead of succumbing to defeat, she allowed it to chisel out her strengths and talents. She is grateful to have lived with her Mom and grandparents most of her youth, and still considers her grandmother a loving and impressionable mentor. She was the blessing and backbone of her stability. After graduating from high school, she attended the College of Central Florida while working in the restaurant industry to pay her way through school. She quickly rose in rank to various management positions, proving her determination to succeed in any arena. A couple of years later she was presented the opportunity to work as a secretary in a real estate office. She witnessed the success of other agents, and it seemed very rewarding to her. She later decided to take the class and get her license, and in her first year, she sold one million dollars in real estate while working part time. Kim has been a Multi Million Dollar Producer since that time, gaining expertise in REO's, traditional sales, short sales, and personal flips and investments. In 2008, she met Tomika Spires-Hanssen when they began working at the same brokerage. Instantly, Kim and Tomika discovered they had the same goals and aspirations in real estate, and decided to combine their talents to become The Sold Sisters team. Their attentiveness and compassion toward their clients is at the center of everything they do. They consider themselves advocates who understand that buying or selling a home involves much more than just moving from one location to another. And that's why they adopted the mantra, 'More Than a Move'. Today, Kim and Tomika are recognized, accomplished agents who have vast knowledge of the area and have sold over 3,000 homes. They specialize in a seamless and stress-free experience for those who are moving into or out of the area, and use their expertise in research, negotiations, and problem solving for clients both near and far away. They're proud advocates for those who are approaching or in retirement so they can confidently enter the next chapter of life. They're also perfectly suited for those who are moving up to their dream home and need a competent team on their side. They have both won the Co-Broke of the Year award multiple times, a testament to their professionalism alongside their real estate peers. They have a growing team and enjoy helping other agents who share the same pursuit and purpose. When Kim isn't guiding their clients through life changing moves, she's spending time with her husband, Thami, and daughters, Kaya and Maya. Thami's family is from South Africa, and is another great blessing in her life. She loves the fact that they treated her like family from the first meeting, even down to hosting a second wedding reception for them in their home of Soweto, South Africa. It is life experiences like these that give Kim the confidence to help others move from one home and phase of life to another. While it is true that we will all encounter defeats, we have the power within us to create the home and memories that will serve as our legacy for generations to come.
