My real estate career began in 1983, and has included executive level positions with some of the largest ski and golf resorts in North America, with disciplines in real estate brokerage, sales, marketing, construction, resort master planning, development and general management. While possessing such a well-rounded and in-depth background in a number of real estate disciplines, my specialty is simply helping clients, no matter if you are in the luxury or introductory market. I most enjoy providing proven, logical and valuable guidance in helping clients accomplish their goals. I am also the General Manager for Sotheby's downtown office, have been elected for two terms as President of the Steamboat Springs Board of REALTORS, two terms as President of the Colorado Exclusive Buyer Agents Association and four terms as a Director for the Colorado Association of REALTORS. I've volunteered to sit on several community boards, and currently serve on the Board of Directors for Yampa Valley Data Partners. I've earned a number of real estate designations throughout my career, including the Certified Residential Specialist (CRS), Graduate REALTOR Institute (GRI), Registered Resort Professional (RRP), Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR), ABR Manager (ABRM), and Electronic Professional (ePRO) certifications. My clients and peers have recognized me as one of the premier brokers in Steamboat as the 2005 and 2014 Steamboat Springs REALTOR of the Year and 2012 and 2014 "Best of the Boat" Real Estate Agent. My clients appreciate having his incomparable knowledge of the market and keen negotiating skills working for them, as well as the professional work ethic and personal care he delivers to each and every client. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my wife Mary, and children Kelly, Nick and Maddie. I can also be found golfing, skiing, playing hockey or flying airplanes. My personal website is www.BuySteamboat.com.
Community Involvement
I have served on several volunteer committees in Steamboat Springs, coached several different athletic teams including football, baseball and soccer.
During my 30+ years in real estate I have developed proprietary methods of analyzing properties for both buyers and sellers.

FAQ
1. What advice would you give a buyer trying to purchase a home?
For most people buying a home is the biggest investment they make, and the worse thing than paying too much for a property is buying the wrong property. I take pride in educating my clients on the market, understanding why they are wanting to own a home, exhausting the market to locate the best properties that meet their needs, then helping them negotiate the best price and terms. Retaining an experienced broker like myself, with over 30 years of experience, is not going to cost a buyer any more than using a new broker, so they should look for the most knowledgeable and experienced broker they can find.
2. What advice would you give a seller trying to sell their home?
Hire a broker who is going to provide an honest value for the property and logical and proven method to get it sold in the time they want.
3. What types of clients have you worked with?
Anyone from first time homebuyers to those who are very wealthy. I have worked with clients who made a purchase decision the first day we looked at properties, to clients who took five years and even longer.
4. Describe a recent transaction you are fond of. How did it go?
It was their first time to Steamboat Springs. The husband waited in the car while the wife came in to get some information on the market and my services. The husband called the next day to set up a meeting, we then went out to look at three homes and he paid $1.2m for a property we saw the next day. No pressure and they love the property.
5. How did you get started in Real Estate?
I was waiting for my top security "Q" Clearance for a government job at a nuclear weapons plant and had a year before it would be completed. I always wanted to get my real estate license so I took classes and started to sell real estate in Summit County, CO. About six months into the clearance I got a call that they were closing the plant down and my clearance was suspended. I had no problem with that because I was living in the Rockies and doing quite well in real estate in a very short time.
6. Do you have any special education or training that will benefit your clients?
I have a very analytical mind. I'm not one to sell someone anything. I enjoy educating clients on the market and letting them decide on what is best for their needs. Before starting my own real estate office I held executive-level real estate sales, marketing and development positions at major ski/golf resorts around the US and have a very in-depth knowledge of most aspects of resort real estate.

Doug represented us in three real estate transactions in Steamboat: a purchase and two sales. As a long time Steamboat resident, Doug brings a wealth of market knowledge when you work with Doug and his team. His thorough analysis of all aspects of the market including both historical and current trends is based on data. Additionally, Doug and his team are very responsive throughout the whole process from listing to closing which is greatly appreciated especially when you may not be in Steamboat to directly address a specific issue with a seller or buyer. And they are very organized to meet all deadlines. We highly recommend working with Doug.

We bought a home from Chicago during the pandemic and Doug did an excellent job helping us navigate the purchase from long distance under unusual and trying circumstances. We are thoroughly satisfied. He was recommended by a friend and I would highly recommend him as well.

Doug did a great job helping us find the perfect home in the Steamboat area. Doug is very personable, honest and knowledgeable of the area and real estate aspects. He took the time to find out what our wants and needs were in the purchase of our new home. Doug is a great guy and we have referred him and will continue to recommend him.

Doug was great to work with, we were able to purchase a 4br condo right at the base during a very tight market. Doug is super responsive and goes above and beyond to keep everything on track.
