Start buy researching agents and then interview and hire one. Don't hire them based on commission you will pay them because you will end up losing more in the end. Agent should be based on what they are going to do to sell your home.
I work with both sellers and buyers, first time home buyers, downsizers, empty nesters, estate sales, upgrading to larger homes, seniors, buyers looking for homes near water such as ocean or ponds, rivers.
I worked with a senior women who was 92 and did not want to leave her home & move in with her daughter. I was the only agent she let in and hired me the next day. I spent many hours with her going through her belongings she wanted to take to her daughters with her. Her daughter lived in another state so she couldn't be here to help her mom. I was very privileged to be trusted and asked to help her. We got everything sorted and her daughter came to get her. I then had to go through the house as though it was an estate sale because there was so much stuff that had to be sold and cleaned out. Everyday I would update the daughter as the progress that I was making for her. Some of what I did was not the typical work of a REALTOR® but I new that they couldn't pay for it to be done and I wanted to help in any way I could. There is so much more to this story that I would love to tell but, it would take to long. My clients were very happy with everything I did and with the sale price I was able to get them. It was a very long month getting it ready to sell but I got it done for them. We talk monthly to check in and see how everyone is doing. I have a new friend but as J says she feels like she gained a sister that she never had and I feel the same way. I truly love that I was able to help them and gained a family in the process.
I was having some medical issues that made it difficult to sit at a desk all day and not have the freedom to move like I needed to. I had taken the real estate class back in the 80's but never got my license. I have always been a people person and done sales off and on through my career so I decided to study for my license in 2016 while recuperating from knee replacement. I got my license and I feel in love with real estate. I am really good at and it just comes natural to me. The best part is seeing people's faces when they get the keys to there new home. It never gets old seeing the excitement and joy.
I got certified in negotiations, I am a certified ASP Stager, I am currently taking the Short Sale and Foreclosure class, and the CSR class. I have gone to best educators possible to learn what I felt would help my clients. I traveled to San Diego to learn Market Techniques, Facebook, Facebook ads, Luxury Certification. and many other social media techniques. In today world of social media, and internet you have to be able to keep up with where the buyers are. If not your house expires instead of selling. I have sold every home I put on the market except for 2 homes. One the seller would not listen as to the price I said it would sell for and they took it off the market and put it on with a different agent and it took many price changes only to sell for the price I had said. The second house was more just not functional for the buyers that came in the bedrooms upstairs were all open and the stairs going up were very awkward as the wall on the right slanted over them so a person over 5 ft had to be careful not to bang their head. If the sellers had put a dormer on that side it would have sold but it was not an option at that time.
