Shop for lenders! If you are in need of financing for your home, begin shopping for lenders. I advise clients to speak with at least 3 lenders. Speaking with a lender can help you figure out an ideal budget for your home and will ultimately help you begin your search. Secondly, research the area you are looking to move to. Real Estate Agents are a great resource for learning about the area, but if you have time to research a particular area yourself you will be able to ask your agent better questions! Lastly, interview agents! Agents are not always "one-size fits all." Most agents specialize in certain areas of real estate. Ask them if they are knowledgeable about the area of real estate you are looking to invest in. Do they specialize in commercial real estate or primarily work with first time homebuyers? For myself, I work primarily with first time home buyers, investors, and individuals looking for a vacation residence in addition to their primary residence.
