The obvious answer here is how important your credit score is. It dictates your loan terms, how much you pay and so much more. So while it may be the obvious answer, it's a vital one. Don't make any major purchases while you're trying to buy your home. Don't change jobs. Make your credit a priority and of course make your payments on time.

Keep it simple. Minimalism is your friend. Buyers want to see what their future home could look like and when the imagine this future home, they don't see clutter, stacks of magazines or books, or anything that looks like work. Clear each room of clutter and clean it like it's a exclusive rental.
